Maintaining commercial freezers: how we do it?
The expected lifespan of a commercial walk-in cooler or freezer is generally 15 years. However, with proper maintenance, regular cleaning, and quality repair work, the commercial freezers can last much longer.
- The commercial freezer must be cleaned at least twice per year. Remove the power supply from the unit and using a soft cloth dipped in water or dish detergent, gently scrub the freezer, and then rinse the cloth with water and wipe to remove the soap. Once the unit has been cleaned, insert the power plug firmly into the socket and verify that the temperature controller is set appropriately.
- A brush should be used to clean the fins of the condenser. This practice should be carried out every two months or so, in order to maximize heat dissipation of the freezer.
- Clean and sanitize the cabinet’s accessories with clean water or detergent when they become dirty and scaled and wipe the surfaces of electrical parts with a dry cloth to clean them.
- If the refrigerator has been unplugged from the power outlet for a long time, before use, it should be wiped clean, then the door should be closed after it has completely dried.
- When defrosting your commercial freezer, you should not make use of sharp metal devices like screwdrivers as you may accidentally puncture the aluminium liner surface that will result in evaporator damage and rust formation. If there is a leak in the refrigerator system, your commercial freezer will not refrigerate anymore.
- Dry rags should not be used to wipe dust off the surface of commercial freezers. Although it is common knowledge that people use dry rags to clean and wipe commercial freezers, the friction created by wiping dust with rags will damage the paint surface of commercial freezers.
- Commercial freezers shouldn’t be left in the sun for long periods of time as they will lose their appearance and look old after experiencing thermal expansion and contraction reducing their service life and their aesthetic appearance.
